The transitioning weather is the perfect cue to switch up your skin care routine.. Often the first signs of dropping humidity are manifested on my lips - they become drier, tighter and sometimes chapped. Wearing matte lipstick becomes even more challenging despite the selection of hydrating matte lipsticks available. On a recent trip to Harmon, I picked up a tube of the new Lip Smacker Rx Medicated lip balm in eucalyptus mint for $1.99. Attracted by the cute pill package design - very Dr Mario-esque, and healing formula, I eagerly ripped it out of the package as soon as I left the store and applied. | The balm is transparent on lips and has a pleasantly minty after taste that doesn't linger too long. It's a great mid-afternoon pick me up :) The balm imparts a cooling tingle on lips and immediately relieves sensations of dryness such as, tightness and discomfort. Unlike many stick balms, this one applies on thickly and wears pretty well. When I use under llipstick, I make sure to apply a thick layer and let it sit for 5 minutes then tissue off prior to applying lip product. I like to best use this product as an overnight lip mask, where I apply it all over my lips, tracing the lip border skin to seal in my moisturizer - giving delicate lip contour skin some extra TLC! |
Overall, this cheap thrill delivered on moisturizing and relieving my parched pucker, while taking me back to the nineties by inspiring my memory of my first Lip Smackers lip balm - Pink Lemonade. Recommended as a must-have everyday and an easy add to any skincare and makeup regimen, and ideal for everyone.

Kicking off Memorial day weekend, I treated myself to one of the newL'Occitane Pivoine Sublime Tinted Lip Balms and an Amande Delicious Soap. It so happened, the Flatiron store was having an event and I also scored some limited edition champagne inspired gummy bears and skincare samples.
The lip tint I picked up was Rose Amber, a deep rose brown that imparts a sheer wash of tint on lips. Much to my dismay, all the other shades had already sold out. The sales associate had re-assured me that they''d be re-stocking next week. She had said these balms had been flying out the door since their launch earlier in the week!
Initially, these balms caught my eye due to their similarity to the Fresh lip balms (of which I am a huge fan) but at a more wallet friendly price ($16).
The balm itself is lightly scented, which quickly dissipates as the product is applied, with no discernible taste. From a formula perspective, the product is lightweight and sheer, and doesn't feel greasy, sticky or heavy on the lips. A little definitely goes a long way. While the shade is not something I normally gravitate towards, I was pleasantly surprised by how sheer the colour was when I swatched it as the colour in the tube is quite deep. Despite this difference, the shade appears to be more a warm orange nude tint rather than a brightening pink or red. As above, compared to Fresh Sugar Lip Balms, Rose Amber is deeper and warmer than Honey and Petal.
I've been sporting Rose Amber all weekend and have been impressed by this lip balm. It glides smoothly over lips and doesn't collect in the corners of my mouth or turn goopy every time I re-apply. In addition, it also makes my lips appear more fuller and hydrated. From a colour perspective, the tint imbued is just right and enhances my natural lip tone. What's also great is that the balm doesn't appear to bleed outside my lip borders, as can be seen above.
I prefer stick balm formats compared to tubes and pots as they are more hygienic, easier to apply on-the-go and have a longer shelf life due to their lower water content in the formula. In addition, I also feel the solid balms are more emollient and retain moisture on the lips longer than tube, liquid, cream formulas. I'll definitely go back and grab the Rose Nude and Transparent balms from the collection! Pivoine Sublime Tinted Lip Balm enhances natural lip colour by imparting a subtle tint and helps lips look fuller and hydrated.
Just in time for summer. L'Occitane introduces Pivoine Sublime Tinted Lip Balms ($16), a stick balm collection inspired by the gorgeous hues of the brand's sustainably grown peonies in the foothills of the Vercors Mountains of Provence. These cute little balms smooth and protect lips while imparting a subtle flush. Enriched with shea butter, and formulated with SPF 25, the balms come in four shades; Rose, Amber, Plum and Sheer.
