I purchased No. 2 balm as I wanted a moisturizing lip and cheek color balm to transition from winter into spring, and to provide much needed moisture on the go. The packaging is very sturdy and convenient for toting around and applying directly from the tube. On the other hand, it does lack precision required for lip application.
I love discovering new brands that are locally sourced and made. Olio e Osso is a brand out of Portland, Oregon founded by Paola Lamorticella, a veteran makeup artist in film and commercial. Paola had formulated the #1 balm to soothe her son's sensitive skin.
Locally produced by hand in small batches in Portland, OR, the luscious balm is made with olive and shea oils, and bound with beeswax and grapefruit essential oil.
The multipurpose balms can be used on lips, face, body and hair and come in 4 shades.
The balm glides on smoothly over skin and doesn't feel sticky, greasy or goopy, and is sets relatively quickly. Blending the color over bare skin was a cinch as you can apply straight from the tube., but blending over foundation and makeup required using a makeup brush to prevent product cross contamination.
No. 2 Fresh Melon delivers a very sheer wash of color on my NC40 skin and a delicate flush on my lips, which is ideal in the cooler months or lazy days when I don't feel like wearing makeup. As a lip color it's very natural looking and doesn't taste too bad as it's flavored with grapefruit essential oil. The color doesn't last long and requires re-application throughout the day for both lip and cheek. The product isn't really makeup but more of a tinted skincare product. In terms of conditioning, softening and moisturizing skin, the balm delivers as my lips appeared to chap less when I wore this product instead of lipstick and lip balm, and my cheeks didn't feel tight or uncomfortable.
Olio E Osso balm is a great alternative to petroleum based lip and cheek color. The balm provides a delicate wash of color and conditions skin during wear.
