I must confess. I have a serious Lululemon bag problem. I own a few, each serving a purpose. A universal collapsible lightweight tote to cart my kickboxing gear and re-purpose as an overnight/carry-on. For zumba, swim and yoga, a lightweight extensible tote that allows me to carry my mat vertically (a lifesaver on public transport), a sleek compartmentalized tote that goes from work to pilates, and a small-medium crossbody/hip bag large enough to tote my 1 ltr water bottle and snacks for long walks and active day trips. One can never have enough!
One of the recent bags I picked up was the Sweat to Street Hobo ($98 USD) as a fun upgrade to my (grey) extendable tote. A medium sized on-trend hybrid bucket hobo bag that's designed to fit all your yoga essentials and more up to 22 kg. Sweat to Street Hobo is constructed with a lightweight polyester fabric that's sweat-friendly and easy to wipe clean. As above in the picture, it features an exterior zipper for extra ventilation so your gear don't get stinky. The bag measures 38 cm x 30 cm x 23 cm, so it's pretty roomy. NB. Although Lululemon don't advise throwing their bags in the washing machine, I regularly wash my polyester Lulu bags on a gentle cycle with wool wash to keep them clean and germs in check. No one likes a stinky or soiled gym bag!
I've been using this bag for zumba, swimming and as a day bag whilst recently attending the Makeup Show in NYC. It comfortably fit both my zumba and work gear (minus laptop), and sits ergonomically above my hip when worn cross body or as a hobo. As can be seen above, the bag features a roomy central compartment (above) with three zipper pockets and netted pouches for phone, tablet, wallet, keys etc, and magnetic button clasp (below).
The bag's shape is also adjustable with the drawstring fastener, which also functions to keep the bag from spilling, and if you're carrying your mat vertically, it keeps it in place and upright.
The bag also comes with an adjustable strap and shoe/dirty gear bag also comes in handy for compartmentalizing soiled gear. The non-detachable sturdy handle is large enough to sling over your shoulder to wear the bag as a slouchy hobo, and becomes handle for a handbag when the drawstring is done up.
From a design perspective, the shape, pattern, fluidity of the material and how it wears reflects a casual vibe. In the solid colors (black and light blue), the bag gives the perception of more structure and is minimalist, hence is a bit more appropriate to use as a work bag too. I've found this patterned designed hides scuff marks and dirt better.
After using this bag for a while now, I've found it to be a fun and a great on-trend upgrade to my grey extendable tote. Considering it's shape can be adjusted, and gear can be vented, I think it will also make an ideal bag for the beach and day excursions. What I love most about Sweat to Street Hobo are it's lightweight but sturdy construction, and that I can throw it in the washing machine to keep it clean. At this stage, I don't think it's my universal gym bag yet as it struggles to fit my kickboxing gear. However, for pilates, swim, yoga, dance, zumba and cardio based activities, it's definitely just right. From a fashion - function perspective, Sweat to Street Hobo ticks the boxes.
