The Tee Shirt Dress is one of my unsung wardrobe heroes that acts as an easy breezy staple during the dog days of summer and weekends, and as a Monday morning outfit life saver. Initially discovered during my first pregnancy a few years ago, the T-dress proved invaluable through the nine months. Made in a variety of materials, the T-dress is the perfect dress as it strategically camauflages and enhances your figure. It also makes for the perfect backdrop for striking accessories and basis for a striking street star style outfit. |
You need a T-dress because it's
- A versatile dress that will take you through seasons, body shape fluctuations
- Packable and ideal for travel as it's relatively crush and wrinkle resistant, and layers well, allowing you to adapt to temparature changes
- A blank slate for striking accessories and outfit
The key things to look out for when shopping for a T-dress is the quality of the cotton fabric. Sure, there are synthetic blends but for the ultimate comfort you want a cotton jersey with a hint of spandex for shape, body and structure. Let's be real here, tight and clingy materials that don't breathe and leave little to the imagination don't suit everyone nor are they appropriate for the office.
Here are two of my picks, which I currently own and have on rotation.
Everlane Cotton Pocket Dress
This relaxed fit tee dress comes in neutral colors and works as the foundation for any outfit from a 1st date to perusing a weekend market. Layered over tights and a long sleeve t, it makes also makes for a great transition piece.
J.Crew Striped T dress
I admit, I own several of J.Crew's T dresses thanks to the high quality and sturdy fabric, cut and shape, especially for petites. Though a T dress, the tailoring and drape of the fabric works well for summer office outfits - throw on a linen blazer or cardi and a contrasting belt and heels - you're good to go. In addition, the cut flatters your figure as it has just the right amount of structure without looking rigid or clingy. The stripes and panel arrangements are flatter curves..
